CLEVELAND - The Cleveland State women's tennis team begins the spring portion of its schedule Saturday at 2:00 p.m. against California University of Pennsylvania. The match will take place at River Oaks Racquet Club in Rocky River, Ohio. CSU will have a new face for the match with the addition of sophomore Katie Shears, who joined the squad this semester.
Shears comes to Cleveland State after attending Embry-Riddle University for a year-and-a-half. She played No.6 singles and No. 3 doubles for the Eagles and helped the team advance to the round of 16 at the NAIA national tournament.
A native of Madison, Ohio, Shears played No. 1 singles and doubles at Madison H.S. In addition, she also played on the men's junior varsity squad at No. 2 doubles. Shears was named first team all-conference in doubles and second team in singles after leading the Streaks to an 18-0 mark her senior year.
Following Saturday's match, the Vikings have four contests on the road before returning home on Feb. 20 to face Eastern Illinois at 9:00 p.m. at River Oaks.
