PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Vikings went to the Cisse Leary Invitational to get the experience of playing against the top competition in the country and while the weekend didn't equate into the amount of wins they would have liked, the experience will be used throughout the season.

The Vikings won one out of their three matches on Saturday, a singles victory from Abby Showalter. Showalter, who won her first collegiate match, defeated Michelle Mitchell from Pennsylvania, 6-1, 6-3.

"It was nice to see Abby get her first win," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "She proably had a couple of things going on in her head after yesterday, but she stayed focused and played better today."

She was joined at this tournament by junior Sarah Galon, who dropped a tough match to Leyla Morzan of Penn State. Playing a tie-breaker format in the third set, Morzan won, 6-3, 5-7, 10-4.

"Sarah played well enough to win today, she just fell a little short," Etzkin said. "Sarah will learn from this weekend and benefit from it in the long run."

Showalter and Galon dropped their doubles match as well, 8-4, to Martin and Schiffman from Pennsylvania.

"This trip was definitely worth coming to," Etzkin said. "We come here and play the best that is around instead of trying to pad our win-loss record. This experience will benefit our players down the road."

The Vikings will be off until Sunday, Oct. 9 when they host dual meets against IPFW and St. Francis at 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., respectively.
