DETROIT, Mich. -- CSU carried the momentum it built up Friday night throughout the remainder of the weekend, as the Vikings went undefeated in doubles and put together an impressive overall showing at the Titan Invitational.

Because of the alternative indoor location of the tournament, matches ran late and teams were forced to wait between matches. Most of the play took place on Saturday, when CSU competed against Oakland and Detroit.

Starting the day against Oakland, CSU swept both the doubles and singles matches. No tiebreakers were needed this time around as each singles match was won in two sets.

"We handled pretty well in the singles matches versus Oakland," said head coach Brian Etzkin. "We didn't start out as aggressive as I would have liked, but we found our feet after a few matches and started playing our game."

Later in the day, CSU went on to take five out of seven singles matches from Detroit. Junior Charlotte Gibbons defeated former Horizon League Player of the Year, Annie Moore, 6-4, 6-1. Melissa Holzinger also played one of her best matches, but came up short in three sets at the No. 2 spot.

CSU's freshmen looked especially impressive this weekend as they made their collegiate debuts. Catrine Bjerrehus went undefeated for the entire tournament, going 3-0 at third singles and combining with Gibbons to go 3-0 at first doubles.

Jackie Tabb and Denisa Muntean were also the individual winners of their flights at No. 4 and No. 6 singles.

Play concluded on Sunday as CSU finished up with doubles against Detroit, dominating again at all four spots. As a team the Vikings did not lose a doubles match on the weekend.

"Overall we played a lot of decent tennis this weekend, and I think we were the strongest team in the tournament," Etzkin said. "We will see these teams again in the season, so this gives us a checkpoint as to where we stand, and we can continue to get better from this point on."

The fall season continues as the Vikings travel to Bowling Green next weekend (Sept. 20) to compete in the BGSU Invitational.
