INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - No. 4 seed Cleveland State avenged its regular season finale loss with a 4-1 win over No. 3 seed Detroit to clinch third place at the Horizon League Championship. CSU finishes the season with a 15-12 record.

The Vikings, who lost to the Titans just six days earlier, started the match by quickly winning the doubles point with victories at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles. Detroit had controlled doubles play in the teams' meeting last week.

"We didn't win the doubles point against Detroit last week and that was definitely the difference," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "In any tournament, you want to beat a higher seed, and we accomplished that."

CSU then won three of four singles matches to clinch the win. Freshman Denisa Muntean won a three-set contest at No. 3 singles and juniors Jenn Myers and Lindsay Sellers each won straight set matches to put Detroit away.

Senior Sarah Galon and sophomore Kristin Chamberlain did not finish their matches, but each was leading when Cleveland State had won the fourth point.

"I'm happy with the way the season ended," Etzkin said. "We had a great season and still have a lot of talent in our program."

CSU will return six of its top seven players from this season's third place team.
