CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's tennis team wrapped up the regular season Sunday afternoon, earning a 6-1 victory over Wright State. Sunday's victory improves CSU's overall record to 15-8, while the Vikings ended the year with a 7-1 Horizon League mark. The seven wins ties the school record for league victories in a season, as the Vikings also posted seven wins during the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.

"It was one of our goals to finish second in the league standings after our loss to UIC earlier this season, so today was a great win for us," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Alex Power finished the season undefeated in league play and was one of only a couple players to do that this year, so that gives her some momentum going into the tournament next weekend. We are looking forward to the championship this year and hopefully we will be able to build on the regular season and finish at the top of the league."

The Vikings picked up the first point of the day, claiming two of the three doubles matches. The No. 1 doubles team of Catrine Bjerrehus and Maria Lazaris cruised to an 8-0 win, while the duo of Alex Power and Alex Bush earned an 8-1 win at the No. 2 spot.

To start singles play, Bush and Power picked up two quick points for CSU, claiming victories at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Bush posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory, while Power notched her ninth straight victory with a 6-0, 6-1 decision, finishing the year with a perfect 8-0 record during league contests. The win also marked Power's 25th of the season, tying her for second all-time in single season wins at Cleveland State.

Nicole Janek clinched the match for the Vikings, picking up a 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles, improving her overall record to 23-11 this year. Bjerrehus and Kara Sherwood picked up the final two singles wins for Cleveland State, Bjerrehus picking up a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the No. 1 spot and Sherwood claiming a 6-3, 7-6 (3) win at No. 3 singles. Sherwood's victory against the Raiders gave her 20 wins for the season, making her the third Viking to notch 20 wins this season.

With both wins this weekend, Cleveland State earned the No. 2 seed in the Horizon League tournament and earns a bye in the first round. The Vikings will begin action in the semifinals on Saturday, April 28.
