Butler Edges Out Vikings, 5-2

CLEVELAND - The Viking women's tennis team dropped a closely-fought 5-2 match to Butler on Saturday (April 16) afternoon at Malaga Tennis Center.

The women's team falls to 14-10 overall and 4-2 in the Horizon League.

Butler jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after claiming wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches for the doubles point. Sarah Galon and Morgan Ungerott continued their domination on the season, going to 6-0 in the league while winning their 13th in the last 15 at No. 1 doubles, but it was not enough for the point.

Galon and Ungerott then posted wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively. With her three-set win over Alaina Girffin, Galon moves to 6-0 in the Horizon League in singles competition.

Butler, however, got the better of the Vikings in the end, claiming four wins for the team victory.

"I'd rather have a team win over the individual wins, but Sarah and Morgan both played really well today," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We have improved at doubles and we are now competitive at 1 and 2 and a few other spots."

"We went in a little nervous and started tentative because we have not lost yet this year," Galon said of her doubles match with Ungerott. "We got down early but came back to win. We decided it was all or nothing for us. It was nice to see us come back and beat a team we lost to last year."

The Vikings conclude the regular season on Sunday (April 17) with a 9:00 a.m. match with UIC at Malaga Tennis Center.
