Women's Tennis Takes Care Of Mastadons, 5-2

April 1, 2005

Fort Wayne, Ind. - After getting down early against IPFW, the Cleveland State women's tennis team rallied in singles competition to come away with a 5-2 victory over the Mastodons on Friday (April 1) afternoon.

The Vikings improve to 12-9 on the season with the win.

Sarah Galon and Morgan Ungerott claimed a strong 8-2 win at No.1 doubles, but IPFW took the two other matches to claim the doubles point and an early advantage.

The Vikings, however, responded in the singles matches, taking five of six for the win. Jenn Myers brought the team score to 1-1 with a fast 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2, while Galon and Ungerott followed with wins at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively.

"It was discouraging being down in the match after doubles," Ungerott said, "but Jenn [Myers] got us off to a great start at singles and everyone took care of business from there."

"Our No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams came out flat, which is unusual for us," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We needed our singles players to step up and they did."

The Vikings return home on April 9 when they host Detroit at Malaga Tennis Center beginning at 2:00 p.m.
