DAYTON, Ohio - For the third time this season the Cleveland State women's tennis team was able to sweep all nine matches, as the Vikings defeated Dayton, 7-0 Saturday afternoon. With the win, CSU improves to 7-4 on the year, while the Flyers fall to 1-9.

"Today was a great team effort, from top to bottom we had solid matches from everyone," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We knew we were favored coming into the match and sometimes that can make it difficult to focus and stay energized but they did a good job of both things today. In a couple of the matches they had some tight first sets, but we were able to keep our composure and stretch the lead to earn the victories."

The Vikings got off to a quick start, picking up the doubles point for the fourth time this season. At No. 1 doubles, Catrine Bjerrehus and Alex Power picked up an 8-2 win, while Kara Sherwood and Mengdi Liu earned an 8-5 win at the No. 2 spot. The No. 3 doubles duo of Maria Lazaris and Nicole Janek posted their third straight victory, claiming an 8-1 win.

Lazaris, who posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles, inched closer to 50 career wins Saturday afternoon, as she notched victory number 49 against the Flyers. If Lazaris is able to claim a victory at Indiana tomorrow, she would become the second current Viking to tally 50 career wins (Bjerrehus).

Janek and Power both extended their win streaks at Dayton, Janek with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles and Power with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 spot. Janek is now riding a six-match win streak, while Power has won four straight singles matches.

Bjerrehus picked up her third victory at No. 1 singles Saturday, posting a 6-3, 6-0 win over the Flyers. Sherwood notched her sixth singles victory of the spring season with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles, and Liu earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 6 spot.

"Our doubles are definitely getting better as the season goes on and hopefully they will continue to move in that direction in the coming weeks," Etzkin said. "We are looking forward to tomorrow's contest and stepping up our game against a very tough Indiana team."

The Vikings will now take on No. 66 Indiana at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow (Sunday, March 4). Live results will be available throughout Sunday's contest, and fans can access the live stats from the women's tennis schedule page on CSUVikings.com.
