Rick Shy begins his first year as an Assistant Coach for the Cleveland State men's and women's tennis teams. Shy has been certified by the United States Professional Tennis Registry since 1984.

An 1982 graduate of Alcorn State University with a B.S. in Business Administration, Shy is currently a teaching pro at The Club Ultimate in Eastlake. He had served as the head tennis professional at Shaker Racquet Club in Warrensville Heights from 1991 until this past year. Among his duties at Shaker were assisting the club manager, conducting private and group lessons and scheduling lessons and court time. In addition, he also served as the Director of Tennis at Cleveland Heights Tennis Club.

Prior to his tenure at Shaker, Shy served as the Assistant Tennis Pro at the Park East Racquet Club in Beachwood from 1986-91. Following his graduation from Alcorn State, Shy served as an Assistant Tennis Instructor for four years at the Millcreek Racquet Club in Warrensville Heights.

Shy also founded the Heights Tennis Academy, which is devoted primarily to the training of juniors on clay courts.

Shy currently lives in Euclid, Ohio.
