Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Earns 7-0 Victory Over Niagara

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's tennis team closed out its non-league slate Sunday, picking up a 7-0 sweep over Niagara. With the win, the Vikings are now 8-8 on the year.

The Vikings were once again able to pick up the early doubles point, sweeping all three matches. At the top of the lineup, Oihane Vicario and Sima Heren earned a 6-2 win, while Filippa Frogner/Selma Tounsi earned a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles and Tereze Vevere/Ella Franz posted a 6-0 victory at the No. 3 spot.

With their win at No. 3 doubles, Vevere and Franz are now tied for third all-time on the CSU Doubles Wins List with 38 career victories.

Frogner gave Cleveland State a quick 2-0 advantage with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles, while a 6-0, 6-2 win from Heren at the No. 2 spot put the Vikings up 3-0 to begin singles play.

Sunday's clinching point came from Vevere at No. 3 singles, as she posted a 6-3, 6-3 win to give the Vikings a 2-0 record on the weekend.

Cleveland State added points at the final three singles matches then, as Yauch earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles, Vicario posted a 7-5, 7-6(5) win at the top of the lineup and Franz notched a 6-7(2), 6-3, 1-0(4) victory at No. 5 singles.

The Vikings will begin Horizon League play next week, hosting Youngstown State on Saturday, March 30.
