Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Sweeps #HLTennis Weekly Awards

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - For the first time this season the Cleveland State women's tennis team has swept the weekly Horizon League awards, as Oihane Vicario has been named the Singles Player of the Week and Bethany Yauch and Sima Heren have earned Doubles Team of the Week honors. This marks the first weekly accolades for the team this season.

Last time out, this trio helped the Vikings to a pair of wins at Ball State (6-1) and Dayton (4-3), remaining perfect on the season at 3-0.

"This is a well deserved honor for Oihane, Sima and Beth, as all three of them have been putting in some great work through the early weeks of the spring season," head coach Frank Polito said. "Oihane has been a staple in our singles lineup this spring, and has showed a tremendous amount of fight in all of her matches so far this season. Sima and Beth have really been able to set the tone for us early in matches with their strong doubles play, and I'm excited for what is to come from all three of them this spring!"

In singles, Vicario went 2-0 on the weekend at the top of the lineup, keeping her perfect this spring (3-0) while also helping her eclipse the 50-win mark for her career.

Both of Vicario's wins came as come-from-behind three-set victories, including picking up the clinching point in the 4-3 victory over Dayton. To open the weekend Vicario posted a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0(3) win against Ball State, while she picked up a 6-7(5), 7-5, 7-5 win at Dayton. In her match against the Flyers, Vicario was down 3-5 in the second set and 2-5 in the third set before coming back to win both frames.

On the doubles court, Heren and Yauch went 2-0 at No. 1 doubles, helping the Vikings clinch the doubles point against Ball State and Dayton.

The duo picked up matching 6-4 wins in both matches, with the victories marking their first of the spring season and improving them to 11-5 on the year. As a tandem, Heren and Yauch are now tied for seventh on the CSU Doubles Wins List with 24 total wins as a doubles team.
