Cleveland State Women’s Tennis Set To Open Fall Campaign At Thunder In The Mountains

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will open its 2023 fall campaign this weekend, participating in Thunder in the Mountains Friday, September 22 through Sunday, September 24. 

This weekend's tournament will be the first of four events for the Vikings this season, including their annual Viking Invitational that they host inside the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion (October 20-22).

Thunder in the Mountains will feature three rounds of singles matches and three rounds of doubles matches throughout the three days. 

Friday, September 22 – 1 Round of Singles, 2 Rounds of Doubles
Saturday, September 23 – 1 Round of Singles, 1 Round of Doubles
Sunday, September 24 – 1 Round of Singles 

Cleveland State will be one of four teams competing this weekend, joining Marshall, Radford and West Virginia. 

The Vikings return seven letterwinners from last season's squad that advanced to the #HLTennis Championship match, including Horizon League Player of the Year Oihane Vicario and All-League honorees Sima Heren, Tereze Vevere and Bethany Yauch. The Vikings will welcome just one newcomer for the 2023-24 season, as fifth-year transfer Mikaela Konstantinova joins Cleveland State from Alcorn State. 

Entering the 2023 fall campaign, Vevere is just seven wins shy of reaching 50 career singles wins, while Vicario is 10 wins shy of reaching the milestone. 

Cleveland State will be under the direction of Frank Polito who is entering his sixth season at the helm and 12thseason overall with the program.
