Women’s Tennis Earns Seventh Straight ITA Academic Honor

TEMPE, Ariz. – For the seventh straight season the Cleveland State women's tennis team has been honored by the ITA for their academic success, as the Vikings picked up ITA All-Academic Team honors, while all seven players were also named ITA Scholar-Athletes.

"Earning academic recognition from the ITA is a great honor for the team, as they put in a lot of hard work not only on the court this year, but more importantly in the classroom," head coach Frank Polito said. "This is a well deserved accolade for the team, and I'm extremely proud of what they accomplished in the classroom despite the adversity that we faced throughout the year."

As a team, the Vikings posted a grade point average of 3.738 for the 2019-20 academic year, earning ITA All-Academic Team honors for the 14th time over the last 18 seasons. Cleveland State was one of seven Horizon League teams to pick up the honor this year.

Individually, Blanche Lenoan and Kateryna Avram both earned their fourth straight ITA Scholar-Athlete honor, while Klara Mrcela and Lara Prosenjak picked up their second straight accolade. Six of Cleveland State's seven players were named to the Cleveland State Dean's List during both the fall and spring semesters this year, including Lenoan and Gaby Schoenberg who earned a spot on the Spring 2020 President's List for having a 3.90+ GPA on 15 graded credit hours for the semester.

On the court, the Vikings finished the shortened 2020 spring campaign with an 8-5 record, which included a program-best 4-0 start to the dual season. Avram paced the Vikings in singles play, posting an 11-2 record during the spring season, while she teamed with Lenoan to record a Horizon League-best 10-1 doubles record on the spring.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year and be listed on the institutional eligibility form.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above.
