Women’s Tennis Drops 4-3 Match At Eastern Michigan

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Cleveland State women's tennis team return to action Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 4-3 match at Eastern Michigan.

• With her win at No. 5 singles against Eastern Michigan, Siân Payne has now won a team-best five-straight singles matches.
Kateryna Avram improved to 16-9 overall this season after picking up a three-set victory at No. 4 singles against EMU.
• Despite dropping the doubles point, Cleveland State's No. 2 doubles team of Kateryna Avram and Blanche Lenoan picked up a 6-4 win to improve to 10-1 this spring.

The Match
After dropping the doubles point, the Vikings were able to even the match with a win in the first singles match to finish, as Lara Prosenjak posted a 7-5, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles. Prosenjak's win came over Eastern Michigan's Vasavi Ganesan and put her at 4-1 this spring when playing at the No. 2 spot.

Cleveland State then extended its lead to 2-1 after picking up a win at No. 5 singles, as Siân Payne posted a 6-2, 6-1 straight-set victory against EMU's Morgan Ingram. 

After Eastern Michigan was able to pick up the next two singles points to gain a 3-2 lead, the Vikings responded with a win at No. 4 singles from Kateryna Avram to even the match once again. Avram's win came in a 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 decision over Emma-Lou Pommiers, as she improved to a team-best 11-2 this spring.

Eastern Michigan was then able to pick up the final singles point of the day, as the Eagles earned a three-set win at No. 6 singles to clinch the 4-3 match victory.

"This was another tough match for us today, although we battled in singles it wasn't enough after we got out to a slow start in doubles. Now we need to bounce back and focus on our next match, as we will try to get back in the win column against Duquesne on Friday." – head coach Frank Polito
