The Vikings posted back-to-back wins against St. Bonaventure (6-1) and Niagara (5-2), improving to 8-3 on the spring season. Cleveland State, who was once again playing shorthanded, has now won four of its last five matches.
Avram & Lenoan Named #HLWTEN Doubles Team Of The Week
Earlier today the Cleveland State tandem of Kateryna Avram and Blanche Lenoan was named the Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week, picking up the third weekly doubles honor of the season for the Vikings. Avram and Lenoan went 2-0 at No. 2 doubles last weekend, helping the Vikings capture the doubles point in both matches.
…Cleveland State & The Doubles Point
So far this season the Vikings have captured the doubles point during eight matches, including against St. Bonaventure and Niagara last weekend. As a team, Cleveland State owns a 21-9 doubles record this spring, including a team-best 8-1 mark from Kateryna Avram and Blanche Lenoan. All eight of Cleveland State's doubles points have come during its eight wins on the season.
Lenoan & Schoenberg Closing In On 50 Career Wins
After six weeks of the spring season, Blanche Lenoan and Gaby Schoenberg are closing in on recording their 50thcareer singles wins, as they both enter Wednesday's match with 45 career victories. Lenoan has picked up 11 singles wins so far this year, while Schoenberg notched her 10th victory of the season last time out. This duo would become the 16th and 17th Vikings all-time to reach the 50-win milestone.
Vikings At The MMTP
Following last Sunday's match against Niagara, the Vikings now stand at 38-12 all-time in the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion, and own a 14-3 record at the MMTP over the last two seasons. Wednesday's match against Akron will be the eighth of a 14-match home slate for the Vikings this season.
Head Coach Frank Polito
Frank Polito is in his second year at the helm of the Vikings, and his eighth year overall at Cleveland State. Over the last two years, Polito has guided the Vikings to a 24-12 record including a 16-9 mark last season. In his first year at the helm, Polito and the Vikings captured a share of the 2019 Regular Season #HLWTEN Championship, and earned an appearance in the league championship match for the first time since 2014.
