CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team picked up a 6-1 victory over Oakland Saturday afternoon, remaining perfect in Horizon League play and staying undefeated at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion this season.

The Match
The Vikings were able to pick up the first point of the match against the Grizzlies, earning the doubles point with wins at the top two spots. At No. 1 doubles, Isabella Spindler and Klara Mrcela picked up a 6-0 win to improve to 4-1 this season, while Lara Prosenjak and Kateryna Avram earned a 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot, improving to 5-1 on the spring.
Cleveland State then carried this momentum throughout the start of singles play, winning first sets on five of the six singles courts.
Gaby Schoenberg picked the first singles point of the day, giving Cleveland State a 2-0 lead after posting a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles. The Vikings then gained a 3-0 advantage following a 6-3, 6-0 win from Prosenjak at the No. 3 spot, while Siân Payne clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles.
Oakland was then able to get on the board with a win at No. 2 singles, but the Vikings responded with another singles win from Avram at the No. 6 spot (6-2, 6-7 (5), 1-0(2)) to take a 5-1 lead with one singles match remaining.
The No. 1 singles match was the final match on the court Saturday, as Spindler battled for a 7-6(4) win in the first set before dropping the second set 6-1, to force a third set tiebreaker. Spindler came out strong in the tiebreaker, taking a 4-0 lead that she would go on to hold until she captured a 10-6 third set tiebreaker win to claim the match.

"Gaby, Siân and Lara came out really strong in singles and clinched the match quickly for us, which was great to see. I'm so proud of Isabella, she played a tough match and pulled out the victory after playing extremely well in the third set tiebreaker. Kate was able to pick up another win for us, but she had to fight for a third set tiebreaker win, which was nice to see her respond when she was pushed by her opponent. Although she wasn't able to pick up the win today, I'm proud of the fight that Klara had throughout her entire singles match, playing with a focused energy from beginning to end."
