Women’s Tennis Returns To #HLWTEN Play Against Oakland & Detroit Mercy

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will return to Horizon League play this weekend, hosting Oakland on Saturday, April 6 and Detroit Mercy on Sunday, April 7.

Last Time Out…
The Vikings played their final non-league match of the season on Wednesday, picking up a 6-1 victory over Dayton to improve to 10-7 overall this season.

…CSU Notches Double-Digit Win Season
With the 6-1 victory over Dayton last time out, the Vikings notched their fourth straight double-digit win campaign and their 15th out of the last 16 seasons. Cleveland State is one of three Horizon League teams to record 10+ wins this season, joining UIC and Wright State.

Vikings In The MMTP
Cleveland State will continue its brief three-match homestand this weekend, looking to improve on its perfect 6-0 record in the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion this season. Overall, the Vikings stand at 29-8 when playing at the MMTP and will host four more matches at home this season.

Avram Notches 20-Win Season
Following her 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles against Dayton last time out, junior Kateryna Avram recorded her team-leading 20th singles win of the season. Avram is the 15th Viking all-time to record a 20-win campaign, and the first since Victoria Bensimon achieved the feat during the 2016-17 season. For the year, Avram owns a team-best 20-8 record, including a 13-3 mark this spring.

Vikings Strong In Doubles Play
Entering the weekend, the Vikings have picked up the early doubles point in five straight matches, and have gotten off to the early 1-0 lead in all 10 of their wins so far this season. The Cleveland State duo of Kateryna Avram and Klara Mrcela owns a team-best 13-9 record this season, while Lara Prosenjak and Gaby Schoenberg stand at 11-6 on the year. Individually, Prosenjak has a team-best 20 doubles wins, while Schoenberg has 18 and Mrcela and Avram have 17.

Cleveland State In Horizon League Play
Entering the third week of Horizon League play, the Vikings own a 3-0 record and are one of just two remaining undefeated teams in #HLWTEN action. So far this season, the Vikings have picked up wins against Milwaukee (6-1), Green Bay (7-0) and Youngstown State (6-1).

…#HLWTEN Preseason Poll
Earlier this season the Vikings were tabbed to finish fourth in the highly competitive 10-team Horizon League field, collecting 69 points to finish behind UIC, Youngstown State and Oakland. This marks the seventh year that the Horizon League has released a preseason tennis poll, with the Vikings now earning a top-four selection in all seven polls.

Viking Quartet With Perfect #HLWTEN Singles Marks
After three Horizon League matches so far this season, the quartet of Kateryna Avram, Lara Prosenjak, Gaby Schoenberg, and Isabella Spindler own perfect 3-0 singles records. Cleveland State is the only league team to have four players with undefeated singles records, while Avram, Prosenjak, Schoenberg, and Spindler represent four of just nine players with perfect marks against league opponents this year.

Scouting The Grizzlies
Oakland enters Saturday's contest with a 9-7 overall record this year, including a 3-1 mark in league play. The Grizzlies have earned #HLWTEN wins against Milwaukee (5-2), Green Bay (7-0) and IUPUI (5-2), and currently rank third in the league standings.

This will be the 18th meeting between the two teams over the last 17 seasons, with Cleveland State owning a 16-1 record in the all-time series.

Scouting The Titans
Detroit Mercy enters the weekend with an even 8-8 record on the year, including a 1-3 mark against league opponents. UDM's lone #HLWTEN victory came in a 7-0 decision over Green Bay, as the Titans have won just one match out of their last six contests.

This will be the 25th meeting between the two teams, with Cleveland State owning a 15-9 advantage in the series.
