Spindler & Mrcela Repeat As #HLWTEN Doubles Team Of The Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the second straight week the Cleveland State women's tennis duo of Isabella Spindler and Klara Mrcela has been honored by the Horizon League, as they were named the #HLWTEN Doubles Team of the Week.

Last weekend, Spindler and Mrcela helped the Vikings to a pair of wins at Milwaukee and Green Bay, opening Horizon League play with a perfect 2-0 record. Cleveland State notched a 6-1 win against the Panthers and followed that up with a 7-0 win against the Phoenix, marking the sixth shutout of the year for the Vikings.

"This is a well deserved honor for Klara and Isabella, I'm so proud of how they played last weekend to begin Horizon League play," head coach Frank Polito said. "Each time on the court they are playing better and better, and they are starting to really find a rhythm with each other. Being able to count on them at the top of the doubles lineup really helps our momentum heading into a match, and gives the team a lot of energy to feed off of."

Spindler and Mrcela picked up a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles last weekend, earning a 7-5 win against Milwaukee and a 6-3 win against Green Bay, helping the Vikings capture both doubles points. Against Milwaukee, the duo was down 2-5 and 15-40, but went on to win five straight games to claim the 7-5 victory.

For the season the duo owns a perfect 3-0 record as a tandem, playing all three matches at the top spot in the doubles lineup.

With the two wins last weekend, Spindler now has 61 career doubles wins, and is tied for seventh on the CSU Doubles Wins List as one of just nine Vikings all-time with 60+ doubles wins.

The Vikings will continue league action this weekend, taking on Youngstown State in Streetsboro, Ohio on Saturday, March 30.
