Vikings Wrap Up Fall Season With Final Day Of WMU Super Challenge

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Cleveland State women's tennis team wrapped up action at the WMU Super Challenge Sunday, with Kateryna Avram, Klara Mrcela and Lauren Longo each picking up wins on the final day of play.

"Overall this was a great final fall tournament for us, we had solid performances by all and have a lot of positives heading into the spring season," head coach Frank Polito said. "Klara had a good win for us today, and she had a great tournament overall, and she is getting better and better every day. Lauren showed what she is capable of with her win today, while Kate once again found a way to win after playing with her 'A' mindset. We definitely ended the fall season better than we started, and we need to keep building on this momentum for the start of the spring season."

Avram notched her seventh singles victory of the fall – marking a team-best – in a 7-6(5), 7-5 decision against Oana Carmen Trus of Lewis.

Mrcela's win came as a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory against Sarah Swiderski of Ball State, while Longo picked up the first singles win of her collegiate career Sunday, earning a 6-4, 7-5 victory against Western Michigan's Kristina Tiraspolsky.

This marked the final tournament of the fall season for the Vikings, with Cleveland State resuming action during the dual match season against St. Bonaventure on Sunday, January 27.
