Vikings Have Strong Final Day At Akron Shootout

AKRON, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team wrapped up play at the Akron Shootout Sunday, playing one round of singles and one round of doubles on the third day of the three-day tournament.

"Overall this was a good first tournament for us, I thought that Kate and Gaby played a solid weekend from start to finish and the entire team definitely improved as the weekend went on," head coach Frank Polito said. "We still have some things to work on in doubles, but we were able to take a step in the right direction this weekend. We now have two weeks to get ready for our first home event of the season next time out."

Gaby Schoenberg and Kateryna Avram picked up singles wins for the Vikings on the final day, with Schoenberg posting a perfect 3-0 singles record on the weekend.

Schoenberg earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Akron's Carla Flores, while Avram posted a 6-1, 7-5 win over Akron's Holland Long.

In doubles play, the Vikings were able to pick up one win on the final day, with Klara Mrcela and Lara Prosenjak teaming up for a 6-2 victory over a Louisville tandem.
