Spindler Tabbed #HLWTEN Singles Player Of The Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After leading the Cleveland State women's tennis team to a 2-0 weekend to begin Horizon League play last time out, junior Isabella Spindler has been named the Singles Player of the Week. Spindler is the third Viking to earn singles player of the week accolades from the league, with Cleveland State's three honors leading all league teams this spring.

Last weekend, Spindler and the Vikings picked up back-to-back wins against Green Bay (6-0) and Milwaukee (7-0), jumping out to a 2-0 start in league play for the seventh time over the last 16 seasons. The Vikings haven't lost a league match in the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion since the 2015-16 season, as they now stand at 10-1 in #HLWTEN play in the MMTP.

"This is a well deserved honor for Isabella, she has been working hard over the last few weeks in practice to really improve her game heading into Horizon League play, and after her two matches this weekend, she is definitely on the right track," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "It's always good to start league play with a pair of wins, and Isabella's strong singles play was definitely a part of why we were able to pick up the two wins last weekend. Hopefully she can continue this strong play over the next few weeks, and continue to pick up crucial points for us in league matches."

Spindler posted a pair of straight-set wins at No. 1 singles against Green Bay (6-0, 6-1) and Milwaukee (6-3, 6-3), improving to 14-11 this year. Spindler, who has won six of her last seven matches, is tied for the team lead with her 14 singles wins overall this season, while she owns an 8-7 record this spring.

Spindler and the Vikings will host Youngstown State on Saturday (March 31) in their lone match of the week, facing the Penguins at 11:00 a.m. in a battle for first place.
