Former Standout Sarah Galon Inducted Into Cleveland State Athletics Hall Of Fame

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Last weekend the Cleveland State women's tennis team had its first player inducted into the Cleveland State Athletics Hall of Fame, with former standout Sarah Galon earning the honor. Galon was a mainstay in the Viking lineup from 2004 through 2007.

"It was very exciting to see Sarah get inducted to the Hall of Fame, It's an honor she certainly deserves," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "During the rebuilding of the team during the early to mid-2000s, she was one of the first players playing at the national level to commit to Cleveland State. Although she had chances to go other places – with better weather – she chose Cleveland State because she wanted the chance to help build a team. And that's exactly what she did."

Galon was Cleveland State's top singles player throughout her entire career, playing all four seasons at No. 1 singles. Galon posted winning records in all four seasons, and finished her career as the winningest singles player in program history with 79 career wins – a mark that still stands today.

A native of Waianae, Hawaii, Galon became the first player in program history to be a four-time First Team All-Horizon League honoree, and is one of only 12 league players to-date to earn First Team honors all four seasons of their collegiate careers.

Galon also picked up a pair of major awards from the Horizon League during her tenure, earning Newcomer of the Year accolades in 2004 and Player of the Year honors in 2005.

In doubles play, Galon finished her career ranked second with 76 career doubles wins, and was part of the all-time winningest doubles team in program history, posting 63 career wins with classmate Morgan Ungerott.

During her four seasons in a Viking uniform, Galon was part of 50+ dual match victories, and helped Cleveland State become one of the top teams in the Horizon League.

"While she was here, she shouldered just about every match at No. 1 for four years, and helped change our not-so-good team to a pretty good team. During this time, Sarah and her teammates propelled the team to the next level and really kick started our success that we have had over recent years. Coming from the most unlikely of places, Hawaii, I will always be thankful for her taking a chance on me, the team, and Cleveland State," Etzkin said.

Off the court, Galon was a two-time Herb Foster Sportsmanship Award recipient, 2007 NCAA National Sportsmanship Award honoree, and served as the Cleveland State Student-Athlete Advisory Council President.

Galon joined Christine Kohler Myeroff (cross country/track '86), Kristen Obush (golf '06) and Jake Scott (golf '09) in this year's Hall of Fame class.
