Vikings Continue Play At Akron Shootout

AKRON, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team continued its strong play on the second day of the Akron Shootout Saturday, picking up four singles wins and a doubles victory.

"Overall we competed really well in singles today, and they were all playing with a great mindset – which is always a plus," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "We got off to a slow start in doubles play and we weren't able to recover, which is something that we will need to work on moving forward. Hopefully we will be able to come out strong tomorrow and have a solid performance on the final day of the tournament."

In singles play, Isabella Spindler and Aleksandra Golawska remained perfect on the weekend, picking up wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively. Playing at the top of the lineup, Spindler posted a 6-4, 6-3 victory, while Golawska battled for a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (7) win at the No. 2 spot.

The freshmen duo of Gaby Schoenberg and Anastasia Perin both picked up their first collegiate singles victories Saturday, Schoenberg earning a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles, and Perin posting a 7-6 (8), 6-4 victory at the No. 5 spot.

Cleveland State's lone doubles win on the day came from the duo of Perin and Blanche Lenoan, as they captured a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Play at the Akron Shootout will conclude tomorrow, with one round of singles and one round of doubles beginning at 11:30 a.m.
