The Final Stretch
The two matches this weekend will mark the end of the regular season for the Vikings, as they enter the final stretch of league play with a 6-1 record. Cleveland State's 6-1 #HLWTEN record puts the Vikings in a tie for first place in the league standings and puts them in contention for a top-two seed in the upcoming Horizon League Tournament.
Last Time Out…
The Vikings dropped their first Horizon League match of the season, dropping a 6-1 contest at Youngstown State last Saturday. Jana Schober picked up Cleveland State's lone point of the match, earning a 0-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles. Over the last four years, the Vikings now own a 26-6 record in Horizon League regular season matches.
Trio Of Vikings In 50-Win Club
After junior Aleksandra Golawska picked up the 50th victory of her career earlier this season, the Vikings now have three current players in the 50-win club. Golawska joins the senior duo of Princess Gbadamosi and Victoria Bensimon who both eclipsed the 50-win mark last season. This trio is part of the 14-member 50-win club at Cleveland State.
…Bensimon & Gbadamosi On CSU Singles Wins List
Victoria Bensimon and Princess Gbadamosi are also part of the CSU Singles Wins List, with both seniors ranking in the top-10 heading into the final weekend of regular season play. Bensimon currently ranks third with 73 career victories, while Gbadamosi ranks eighth with 67 career wins. Entering the final stretch both seniors have a chance to make moves in the top-10, with Bensimon needing just one more win to move into second place and Gbadamosi needing just three more wins to move into seventh place on the list.
…And On CSU Doubles Wins List
After last weekend's match at Youngstown State Victoria Bensimon and Princess Gbadamosi are also both on the CSU Doubles Wins List, with both seniors tied for ninth place with 55 career doubles wins. Gbadamosi earned her spot on the list after picking up wins against Northern Kentucky and Oakland earlier this season, while Bensimon moved into the top-10 with a victory at No. 1 doubles last weekend.
Head Coach Brian Etzkin
Brian Etzkin is in his 15th year with the Vikings, owning a 197-184 dual match record. During his tenure, Etzkin has guided Cleveland State to a pair of Horizon League Regular Season titles (2014 & 2016), and three Horizon League Championship Match appearances. With just three more dual match victories, Etzkin will become the second active Horizon League women's coach with 200 wins on their career.
Scouting The Panthers
Milwaukee enters Saturday's match with a 9-12 overall record this season including a 3-4 mark against league opponents. Milwaukee has won two out of its last three matches, picking up a 7-0 win at Green Bay and a 5-2 victory at Valparaiso.
Under head coach Brian Etzkin the Vikings own a 13-3 record against the Panthers.
Scouting The Phoenix
Green Bay enters the weekend with a 2-13 overall record and an 0-7 record in Horizon League play. The Phoenix will take on Youngstown State prior to Sunday's matchup against the Vikings.
Over the last 14 seasons the Vikings own a 14-2 record against Green Bay.
