Women’s Tennis Set To Host Akron In Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team will return to action this week, hosting Akron on Wednesday, March 9 in the first match to be played in the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion. The match is slated for a 3:00 p.m. start.

Orange Closing In On 50 Wins
Entering the week, senior Mathilde Orange is just three wins shy of notching the 50th singles victory of her career. Orange, who currently has 47 singles wins, would become the 12th Viking all-time to record 50 career singles victories.

Cleveland State's New Domicile
Wednesday's match against Akron will be the first match played in the brand new Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion – Cleveland State's on-campus indoor facility. Spring Singles Records
Freshman Isabella Spindler enters the week with a team-best 5-3 singles record this spring, earning playing time at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 singles. Most recently, Spindler played at the No. 2 spot against Western Michigan and Michigan State. Sophomore Aleksandra Golawska is right behind Spindler in the statistics, standing at 4-4 in singles play this spring. Golawska has played at the bottom two spots for the Vikings this season, and has won three out of her last five singles matches.

Head Coach Brian Etzkin
Head coach Brian Etzkin is in his 14th year with the Vikings, owning a 175-171 dual match record. During his tenure, Etzkin has guided Cleveland State to three Horizon League Championship match appearances and the program's first-ever Regular Season Horizon League title in 2014.

Scouting The Zips
Akron enters Wednesday's match with a 9-3 record on the season, and has won five of its last seven matches. Cleveland State will be the sixth Horizon League opponent for the Zips this season, as they hold a 5-0 record against Horizon League teams this spring.

This will be the 11th meeting between the two teams over the last 13 seasons, with Akron owning a 7-3 record in the overall series.
