Vikings Earn 7-0 Sweep At Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis – The Cleveland State women's tennis team recorded its second sweep of the season, and picked up its fourth victory out of the last six matches, after posting a 7-0 victory at Green Bay Saturday evening.

"The team came out with a lot of energy today and played some good doubles to get us off to a 1-0 start, before continuing that momentum in singles play and taking care of business," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We looked really sharp on the courts today, which we will hopefully be able to carry over to tomorrow's match at Milwaukee."

The Vikings were able to get out to a quick 1-0 lead after picking up the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. At the top of the lineup, Ellen Folkers and Victoria Bensimon were able to notch a 6-4 victory, while Mathilde Orange and Princess Gbadamosi earned a 6-3 win at the No. 3 spot.

Cleveland State then kept the momentum on its side, as the Vikings were able to sweep the singles matches, including five of them in straight sets.

Aleksandra Golawska was able to extend her singles winstreak to six matches Saturday, as she posted a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles. Golawska is now 14-10 overall this season, and a perfect 5-0 in Horizon League singles action.

Orange was able to pick up her first victory at No. 1 singles Saturday, posting a 6-1, 6-3 victory to improve to 4-1 in league play.

Folkers notched her team-leading 18th singles win of the season against Green Bay, earning a three-set victory (3-6, 6-0, 10-4) at the No. 2 spot. Folkers is now 18-9 overall this season, and 10-8 this spring.

The Vikings will close out their Wisconsin roadswing tomorrow (Sunday, April 12), facing Milwaukee at 12:00 p.m. EST.
