Women’s Tennis Notches 5-2 Victory At Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Behind strong singles play the Cleveland State women's tennis team was able to pick up a 5-2 victory at Duquesne Saturday afternoon, notching their third victory out of their last five matches.

"It was a great team effort today, we came out tired in doubles, but were able to rebound and come out strong in singles," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "We were able to pick up five first sets in singles to set the tone, and carried that momentum until the end. Aleksandra continued her great play and was able to get us on the board quickly in singles and the rest of the team fed off her energy and got the job done."

After dropping the doubles point the Vikings were able to pick up five singles wins - four of which coming in straight sets.

Aleksandra Golawska was able to extend her winstreak to five matches Saturday, picking up a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles. Golawska is now 13-10 overall this season, with Saturday's match being her first at the No. 4 spot.

Mathilde Orange captured a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles, while Jana Schober posted a 6-4, 7-5 victory at the bottom of the lineup.

Princess Gbadamosi was the lone Viking to play three sets Saturday, coming out on top of a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 decision. Victoria Bensimon picked up the clinching point for the Vikings, capturing a 7-5, 7-6 (3) victory at No. 3 singles. Bensimon now has a 15-12 overall record this spring.

The Vikings will return to action next weekend, traveling to Green Bay (Saturday, April 11) and Milwaukee (Sunday, April 12).
