Golawska Notches Singles Win As Vikings Fall To YSU

YOUNGSTOWN, OhioAleksandra Golawska picked up her fourth straight singles victory Friday evening, as the Cleveland State women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Youngstown State.

"Overall I thought we competed really hard today and learned a lot about our team and Youngstown State, and hopefully we will have another chance at them in the future," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "No. 1 doubles set the tone for us early on, but we just couldn't seal the deal on the other two courts. Despite dropping the doubles point, I thought we played good doubles, we just couldn't finish out the matches."

Golawska's victory came at No. 5 singles, picking up a 6-4, 7-6 (4), 10-4 victory. Golawska is now 12-10 overall this season, and 7-7 in dual match play.

"Aleksandra had a nice win for us today, and more important than the win she was able to make adjustments during the match to get the win. I'm glad to see her doing that mid-match and happy to see her continuing her great play," Etzkin said. "We lost a staggering number of deuce points today on multiple courts, and we have to do better in those pressure situations moving forward."

Cleveland State also picked up a doubles win Friday evening, as Ellen Folkers and Victoria Bensimon earned a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles.

The Vikings will continue their spring season tomorrow (Friday, April 3), traveling to Duquesne for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
