Vikings Open Horizon League Play With 5-2 Victory At Wright State

FAIRBORN, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team opened up its Horizon League slate Saturday, posting a 5-2 victory at Wright State.

"This was a great match for us today. We were able to win five first sets in singles action, and everyone played with heart and a lot of fight," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "Ellen really set the tone for us in singles play, picking up her win at No. 2 singles, while Aleksandra had a great day in singles and doubles for us. I'm proud of the way this team has started Horizon League play, and look forward to what we can bring the rest of the season."

Despite dropping the doubles point, the Vikings were able to pick up first set victories on five of the singles courts to quickly take control of the match. Ellen Folkers was able to pick up an easy 6-1, 6-0 victory at No.2 singles – improving her season record to a team-best 16-6.

Victoria Bensimon was able to improve her season singles record to 13-10 Saturday afternoon, as she posted a 7-5, 6-1 victory at the top of the singles lineup. Mathilde Orange reached the double-digit win mark for the season with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 win at the No. 3 spot, while Princess Gbadamosi posted a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles.

Aleksandra Golawska was the only Viking to post a singles and doubles victory Saturday, as she posted a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles and teamed with Jana Schober for a 6-0 victory at No. 3 doubles.

The Vikings will now return home to continue Horizon League play next weekend, hosting Detroit (Saturday, March 28) and Oakland (Sunday, March 29).
