Vikings Fall At IPFW, 5-2

WARSAW, Ind. – The Cleveland State women's tennis team returned to action Friday evening, falling at IPFW, 5-2.

"We played a tough match today, but we just weren't able to fight through some difficult spots in some matches. I thought Mathilde played a great match in singles action, while Ellen really put up a good fight against her opponent," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "As a team, we had a great performance in doubles, picking up the early point against IPFW. Tomorrow we begin Horizon League play, and hopefully we are able to combine everything that we have worked on up until this point and come out victorious."

For just the third time this season the Vikings were able to pick up the doubles point, capturing victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. At the top of the lineup Victoria Bensimon and Ellen Folkers earned a 6-2 victory, while Jana Schober and Aleksandra Golawska teamed up for a 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot.

Mathilde Orange picked up Cleveland State's lone single win against IPFW, posting a 6-3, 6-0 victory against Alina Schibol. Orange picked up her ninth singles win of the season, and just her third during the spring slate.

Folkers was able to force her opponent to three sets at No. 2 singles, after coming back to capture a 6-4 victory in the second set after dropping the first, 6-1. Folkers then came up short in the third set, 7-6 (5). Folkers still owns a team-best 15-6 singles record this season, including a 7-5 mark this spring.

The Vikings will open Horizon League play tomorrow, traveling to Wright State for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
