Vikings Fall To Hawaii Pacific, 4-3

HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Cleveland State women's tennis team opened their annual Spring Break Trip Sunday afternoon, falling to Hawaii Pacific, 4-3. The Vikings will now face Hawaii Hilo and BYU Hawaii over the next four days to complete their Spring Break Trip to Hawaii.

"This was a tough match for us today, it was the first time playing outside this season and that is always a hard adjustment to make after playing indoors for so long," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "I'm proud of the fight that the team showed today, and I thought everyone played hard and with a drive to focus on improving."

Hawaii Pacific, an NCAA Division II team that was ranked No. 6 nationally by the ITA earlier this season, was able to get the early 1-0 lead after picking up the doubles point. Despite dropping the doubles point, the Viking duo of Mathilde Orange and Princess Gbadamosi was still able to earn a 7-5 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Cleveland State's three points came from singles action against Hawaii Pacific, including a victory from Ellen Folkers at No. 3 singles. Folkers extended her winstreak to five matches Sunday afternoon, picking up a 6-3, 6-4 victory. She now stands at 14-4 overall this season, and has a team-best 6-3 record this spring.

Gbadamosi and Aleksandra Golawska were also able to pick up singles wins for the Vikings, Gbadamosi at No. 5 singles and Golawska at the No. 6 spot. Gbadamosi picked up a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 three-set win to even her singles record to 9-9 this season, while Golawska earned a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
