Women's Tennis Picks Up First Win Against Bowling Green

PERRYSBURG, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's tennis team captured its first victory of the 2015 spring season Friday evening, earning a 5-2 victory over Bowling Green.

"I thought this was a great match for us tonight, we not only got our first win of the season, but we competed throughout the entire match," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "Bowling Green was a very tough team, and I'm proud of how our team responded and fought throughout singles and doubles. The bottom portion of our singles lineup captured some key wins for us today, and focused on what they needed to do."

For the first time this season, the Vikings were able to pick up the doubles point, earning victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Ellen Folkers and Princess Gbadamosi earned a 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot, while Mathilde Orange and Aleksandra Golawska posted a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

Victoria Bensimon, who was playing at the top of the singles lineup for the first time in her career picked up a 3-6, 7-5, 11-9 victory for the Vikings. Bensimon now has a team-best four singles wins this season.

Cleveland State then rattled off three wins at the bottom of the singles lineup, with Folkers, Gbadamosi, and Aleksandra Golawska picking up wins at No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 singles, respectively.

Folkers earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 spot, while Gbadamosi picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles and Golawska posted a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.

The Vikings will continue the spring season at home on Sunday (Feb. 15), hosting Ball State at 12:00 p.m.
