Vikings Drop 5-2 Contest At Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio – Victoria Bensimon and Ellen Folkers each posted singles wins, as the Cleveland State women's tennis team fell at Toledo, 5-2 Sunday afternoon.

"I thought we played very hard today, we are learning how to compete through an entire match and focus from start to finish," associate head coach Frank Polito said. "We need to work on our mental toughness – and focus on being mentally tough as the match goes on – but that will come with time. Overall, we keep improving from match-to-match and we will definitely be in top shape once the league portion of our schedule rolls around."

For the second straight match the Vikings were able to pick up a doubles win – despite dropping the doubles point. Against Toledo, CSU's No. 2 team of Ellen Folkers and Princess Gbadamosi was able to post a 6-4 victory.

Cleveland State's two singles wins came from Victoria Bensimon at No. 2 singles and Ellen Folkers at No. 4 singles.

Bensimon earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Lexy Pitt, marking her second straight singles win after starting the spring season with a 1-2 mark. Bensimon, who is now 2-0 when playing at No. 2 singles, owns a 10-5 singles record overall this season.

Folkers' win came as a 6-4, 7-5 decision over Mackenzie Bowman, snapping a three-match losing skid that she had in singles play. Folkers is now tied for the team lead with a 10-4 overall singles mark.

Next up for the Vikings will be a Friday night contest at Bowling Green on February 13. The match is slated for a 6:00 p.m. start.
