Golick & Folkers Win Doubles Flight At BGSU Invitational

Final Draws

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Cleveland State women's tennis team wrapped up play at the BGSU Invitational Saturday, with Lauren Golick and Ellen Folkers capturing the Flight 3 Doubles Title.

"Overall I was happy with our performance this weekend, this was our first tournament of the year and we aren't at full strength quite yet, but I thought this was a good first step for us," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "The highlight of today's action was Ellen and Lauren winning their doubles draw with two great matches, while Lauren also finished as runner-up in her singles flight. We were also able to pick up some good wins in consolation matches, finishing off the weekend on a good note. We got to see a little of what is in store for us in the league this year, and once again it is going to be competitive match-after-match. I am looking forward to continuing the fall season and working hard to improve in both singles and doubles action."

Golick and Folkers picked up Cleveland State's first fall tournament title of the season, winning two matches during play Saturday. The duo earned an 8-6 victory over Toledo in the semifinals, and then picked up an 8-4 win over IPFW in the championship match. The duo finished the weekend with a perfect 3-0 doubles record.

Mathilde Orange was able to claim the Flight 3 Consolation title Saturday, picking up a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Ann-Sophie Hahn of UIC. Orange went 1-1 in singles action yesterday, finishing the weekend with a 2-1 record.

Ellen Folkers and Aleksandra Golawska also picked up consolation round wins Saturday, Folkers with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Emily Witt of Bowling Green and Golawska with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Brittany Plaszewski, also of Bowling Green.

Cleveland State's final victory of the day came from the doubles team of Victoria Benismon and Golawska, as they posted an 8-7 (4) consolation match win against UIC.

The Vikings will continue the fall season next weekend, taking part in the West Virginia Invitational. The WVU Invite is a hidden-dual tournament, which will take place from Friday, Sept. 26 through Sunday, Sept. 28.
