Orange Picks Up Singles Win As Vikings Fall To Bowling Green

WESTLAKE, Ohio – Mathilde Orange posted her third straight singles victory Friday evening, but that was the only point the Cleveland State women's tennis team could pick up, as the Vikings fell to Bowling Green, 6-1.

"This was a tough match for us, I would have loved to play this match again and get the doubles point and see how it played out, because we were so close to coming away with the doubles point today," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We are playing decent tennis right now, and we are close to getting the big points. With continued practice we will eventually hit our stride and pick up wins when they really matter. Mathilde had a great match for us today, and the No. 2 doubles team really battled through some tough points to pick up their win."

Orange's victory came at No. 4 singles, as she posted a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Drew Fillis of Bowling Green. Orange now has three singles wins on the spring season – the second best total on the team.

The CSU doubles team of Alex Bush and Kara Sherwood was also able to pick up a win against Bowling Green, earning an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles.

"I thought we let ourselves play through some big moments today, and we need to continue to focus on the court and the task at hand. We will now put in a good week of practice, and get some rest and get ready for Toledo next weekend," Etzkin said.

The Vikings will return to action next weekend, hosting Toledo at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22.
