CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's tennis team hosted Walsh in its final home contest of the season Friday afternoon, defeating the Cavaliers 7-0 in their third sweep of the season. The Vikings are now 11-10 overall this year and have won four of their last five matches.

"I thought we played a very solid match today, we took care of business on every court and focused on what we needed to in order to prepare for the next few weeks," assistant coachFrank Polito said. "We have some things to work on this weekend at Wright State, and if we focus and play solid tennis we will be in a good place heading into the league tournament."

Nicole Janek and Maria Lazaris were each able to cruise to 6-0, 6-0 victories to begin the match, Janek at No. 6 singles and Lazaris at the No. 5 spot. Janek is now 12-4 during the spring, while Lazaris is 12-9 - tying the team-high for singles wins this spring. Alex Bush picked up the next point for the Vikings at No. 3 singles, earning a commanding 6-0, 6-1 victory.

Kara Sherwood clinched the match for CSU at No. 4 singles, picking up a 6-3, 6-0 victory - improving to 17-12 overall this year and 12-7 this spring. Sherwood's 17 victories leads the Vikings this season and she is now just three wins away from posting 20-wins for the second time during her CSU career.

Mathilde Orange and Alex Power rounded out singles play Friday afternoon, Orange claiming a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles and Power battling for a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 2 position.

CSU was also able to sweep all three doubles matches against the Cavaliers, including an 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles from Alex Power and Maria Lazaris. Alex Bush and Mengdi Liu earned an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Mathilde Orange and Nicole Janek picked up an 8-2 win at the No. 3 spot.

The Vikings will wrap up the regular season this Sunday (April 21), traveling to Wright State for a 10:00 a.m. match. As of Friday (April 19) afternoon the match is scheduled to be played outdoors on the Wright State campus, in case of inclement weather check back to CSUVikings.com for additional updates.
