CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's swimming and diving team earned the Team Scholar All-America Award from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America that was announced on Tuesday evening.

The Team Scholar All American award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented to teams achieving this standard in the fall semester and in the semester of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships (Winter/Spring).

The Vikings sported a team GPA of 3.31.

"I am extremely proud of the women's swimming and diving team for combining excellence not only in the pool, but also in the classroom," head coach Wally Morton said. "Make no mistake about it, they are students first and athletes second and that's the way it should be.

"What makes this accomplishment even more impressive is that the team accomplished it with so many engineering and nursing majors on the roster."

In the pool, the Vikings enjoyed one of the best seasons in program history, finishing a program-best second place at the 2012 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships. The squad won eight events and three relays and had the Diver of the Year in Kacey Cummings.

In addition, CSU was undefeated in league dual meets.
