Cummings and Gonzalez Compete at Zone Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Seniors Kacey Cummings and Josh Gonzalez represented Cleveland State on Thursday and Friday (March 8-9) at the NCAA Zone `C' Diving Championships hosted by Indiana University.

They joined other qualified NCAA Division I divers from the states of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio who were competing for a chance to advance to the NCAA Championships.

A total of seven men and seven women will qualify for the championships, held March 15-17 in Auburn, Ala. for the women and a week later - March 22-24 - in Federal Way, Wash. for the men.

Gonzalez was 34th on the one-meter board with a total of 255.80 and he placed 47th in the three-meter diving event with a score of 225.10. As a junior, he scored a 226.70 off the three-meter board at the Zone Championships and placed 36th.

At the Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships, Gonzalez won the three-meter event with a 353.75.

On Thursday, Cummings - the 2012 Horizon League `Diver of the Year' - had a score of 200.20 in the one-meter diving event to place 55th. During the season, she had a one-meter score of 276.65 and won the event at the league meet with a total of 270.90.

She came back on Friday and placed 53rd (212.70) on the three-meter board, an event she won at the Horizon League Championships.

Last year, Cummings finished 36th overall in the 1-meter (221.45) while taking 46th overall in the 3-meter dive (202.40).
