CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State swimming and diving program was recently recognized by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America for its efforts in the classroom. Both the men and the women obtained `Scholar All-America' status for the fall 2011 semester.

The women's team carried a 3.39 GPA while the men finished the semester with a 3.0 mark.

"The impressive thing about our teams is that they train very close to 20 hours a week - oftentimes they have two workouts and in some cases three workouts a day - and to achieve such outstanding grades is a testament to the fact that they're serious athletes, but more importantly they're serious students," head coach Wally Morton said.

"There are many teams that can't combine success in the arena and the classroom but we're not one of them," Morton added. "I think the fact that we have quite a few engineering, nursing and science majors on our team makes this achievement more spectacular."

The College Swimming Coaches Association of America presents the Team Scholar All-American award to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Cleveland State also excelled in the pool as both teams finished second at the 2012 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships.
