Cleveland, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's swimming and diving team swept the Horizon League weekly honors for the period of Jan.11-Jan.17, with freshman Alice Sommerville earning swimmer of the week honors and sophomore Kacey Cummings named diver of the week after leading the Vikings to the first ever 12-win season.

The league office made the announcement Monday (Jan. 18).

Sommerville swept the freestyle sprint events, winning the 50 free in 23.84, the fastest time of the season, and the 100 free in 52.28 in dual meet victories over Xavier and Duquesne last Saturday (Jan. 16).

"Alice trained everyday over the holiday break, and her dedication and hard work is starting to pay off for her," head coach Wally Morton said. "What is best about Alice is that she not only practices, but she practices perfectly which leads to perfect performances in meets."

Cummings brought home a pair of first-place honors last weekend, winning the 1-meter board with a score of 261.45 and the 3-meter diving event with a 285.10, both personal best scores.

Sommerville and Cummings both earned their second weekly award of the season and of their careers. CSU has won swimmer or diver of the week honors seven times this season, the most out of all the Horizon League schools.

The Vikings return to action on Saturday (Jan. 23) when they travel to Fairborn, Ohio to take on Wright State at 1:00 p.m.
