Oxford, Ohio - Cleveland State put up several strong showings in the second day of competition at the Miami Invitational on Friday (Dec. 2) night, including a pair of Horizon League top marks.

Junior Bjorn Schantz improved upon his league-leading time in the 200 freestyle, breaking the 1:40 barrier with a 1:39.89 time for third place overall. Additionally, sophomore Dave Duecker bested the previous league-top time in the 200 butterfly by nearly two seconds with a second-place time of 1:51.78.

Freshman Marko Milenkovic led off the 200 freestyle relay in a season-best 50 time of 21.63 while the team of Daniel Thomasson, Ari Markle and Pieter Pelser finished up the relay with a 10th-place showing in a top time of 1:28.20.

Thomasson added a personal season best time in the 200 free with a 1:41.56 for sixth place. Senior Pieter Pelser added a second-place showing in the 100 backstroke, coming up just short of his Horizon League-best time with a 50.34.

On the women's side, junior Marianne Lionell bested her season-best time in the 100 breaststroke in the preliminaries with a 1:06.51 and improved on her 50 free mark with a prelim time of 24.46. Senior Kirsty McKechnie notched a season-best 4:37.83 in the 400 IM.

On the boards, senior Thatcher Carr returned to his dominant form by claiming wins at one meter with a 621.35, topping the runner up by over 80 points.

The men's team currently sits in 8th place with a score of 456, while women's team is in 13th with a score of 156.5.

The final day of competition gets underway on Saturday (Dec. 3) with prelims at 9:00 a.m. and finals starting at 6:00 p.m.
