OXFORD, Ohio - Improvements were many as the Cleveland State women's swimmers continued to improve on their best times in several events in the third and final day of the Miami Invitational at Miami University's Gross Center.
Senior Lesley Jones was the only Viking to score points individually for the women's team, posting a 17th place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.28 after swimming a 53.18 in the preliminary heat.
"We had a very small group that we brought down here," stated head coach Wally Morton, "They performed very well and I am very encouraged by the improvement I am seeing on the women's side."
Among the Vikings who did not score any Day 3 points for Cleveland State, Deanna Raedel was a standout performer as her time of 2:30.58 in the 200 breastroke was a new personal best.
"We have a lot of work to do before we get closer to our conference meet, and we look forward to continuing to get better," said Coach Morton.
Overall the team managed a 13th place showing out of the field of 16 teams, but placing high in the meet was not the highest priority, as Coach Morton stressed.
"We were concerned with continuing to improve overall, and I think that today was a big step in that direction," he said.
The Cleveland State swim team will remain inactive from competition until the Holiday Invitational on January 5th, and looks forward to getting getting started with its hard training portion of the season over winter break.
