Chicago, Ill. - A pair of CSU records fell as the Cleveland State women's swimming and diving team ended the first day of the Horizon League Championships in fifth place with 75 points.

"We had awesome swims today by the entire women's team," head coach Wally Morton said. "We are performing extremely well right now, and hopefully that will continue throughout the entire championship. Every swim except for two was a personal best, which just goes to show how much work the team has put in this season and they are continuing to see the benefits."

The two records were set during the first two events of the meet, beginning with the 200 free relay. The team of Alice Sommerville, Carys Behn, Joanna Olsson and Whitney Hickey finished third with a time of 1:34.87. Sommerville led off with a 23.73 split, Behn swam the second leg in 23.40, Olsson swam a 23.76 in the third leg, and Hickey anchored the relay with a split of 23.98.

Behn came back to reclaim her school record and set a personal best in the 1,000 free, finishing fifth in 10:18.76. Behn was the first of two Vikings to score points in the race, with Kelly Rath recording a personal best by more than 30 seconds, finishing 16th in 10:47.47.

Frances Carrion (10:54.96) and Erin Green (11:08.89) also swam in the 1,000 free, both swimming their best times of the season.

The 200 medley relay team of Michelle Ferro, Emily Simard, Emily Splain and Whitney Hickey recorded the highest finish for CSU in the event in the past five years when they finished fifth in a time of 1:48.41. Ferro started the relay swimming a 27.82 50 back split, while Simard swam the second fastest split of the event in the breast, 24.05. Splain swam a 26.77 fly split and Hickey anchored the relay with a 24.05 50 free.

Milwaukee is leading the women's standings with 111 points, Wright State is second (106), Green Bay third (106), UIC fourth (85), CSU fifth (75), Youngstown State sixth (52), Butler seventh (46) and Valparaiso eighth (24).
