Women's Swimming and Diving Team Brings Some Sunshine Home

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland State women's swimming and diving team, fresh off its training trip to Florida, opened the second half of its season by defeating Youngstown State 130-110 Thursday in Robert F. Busbey Natatorium. The Vikings (5-2) opened the meet by dominating the 200-yard medley relay and went on to win nine of the 11 swimming events.

Sophomore Jen Catton (Tecumseh, Ontario/Belle River) set two season-best times by winning the 500-yard freestyle (5:17.74) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:46.78).

The other half of the CSU-Ontario connection, freshman Marlene Przykling (Ingersoll, Ontario/Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute), grabbed a first in the 100-yard backstroke with a 1:03.91.

Seniors Georgian Peric (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid) and Audrey Gray (South Euclid, Ohio/Brush) continue to keep their sights set on the Horizon League Championships in March. Peric won the 200-yard IM (2:18.53), while Gray brought home first-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.82) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.94).

The team will use Friday to rest up before joining the men's team to host Xavier and Duquesne on Saturday at 1 p.m.
