Cleveland, Ohio - The Cleveland State women's swimming and diving team recorded 10 individual victories en route to dual meet wins over Duquesne and Xavier. The 134.5-96.5 victory of Duquesne marks the first in the past 15 seasons, and the 151-78 victory against the Musketeers just the second in the last 15 years.

"We have been training very hard the past few weeks so everyone is physically torn down and to still get these wins is great," head coach Wally Morton said. "Everyone had great swims for us today and I am very proud in the way they came out against some tough competition."

Joanna Olsson led the way for the Vikings, recording three individual victories during the meet. Her first came in the 1,000 free when she finished in 10:26.78, 14 seconds faster than the second place finisher from Duquesne. Olsson's second victory came in the 200 IM, touching in 2:08.46 and the final victory came in the 200 fly (2:03.94).

Carys Behn and Alice Sommerville both had two first place finishes during the meet, Behn's coming in the 200 free (2:54.55) and the 500 free (5:06.01) and Sommerville's in the 50 free (23.84) and the 100 free (52.28).

Behn and Sommerville were also part of the impressive 400 free relay team that took home first place honors, joining Whitney Hickey and Emily Splain to record a time of 3:36.43, finishing five seconds before the second place relay team.

"Everyone on the women's squad is really starting to step up and we are getting wins out of more than just our top swimmers," Morton said. "The team effort gives us quality depth which makes CSU a very hard team to swim against."

Michelle Ferro was the last CSU swimmer to record an individual victory when she finished the 200 back in 2:09.28, two seconds before the rest of the field.

Kacey Cummings paced the Viking divers, finishing first in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. In the 1-meter Cummings recorded a score of 261.45 and a 285.10 in the 3-meter board.

Courtney Maddock had the biggest time drop during the meet when she finished the 200 fly in 2:17.48. Although it was a seventh place finish, she dropped more than 30 seconds off her previous 200 fly time that she set earlier this season.

"Travelling to Wright State will be a good challenge for us," Morton said. "They have a very challenging pool to swim in and I am excited to see what the team brings."

The Vikings return to action next weekend when they travel to Wright State for a 1:00 p.m. meet on Saturday, January 23.
