CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Vikings swam hard in winning one of three dual match-ups this Saturday at the Busbey Natatorium. The team scored a win over Canisius (155-62), but fell short of victory against Duquesne (156-58) and Xavier (170.5-42.5).

"I want to congratulate our women in beating Canisius. This was a well-earned win over an excellent school and I am proud of the performances," said head coach Wally Morton.

Standout individual performances for the afternoon were turned in by Erin Green, Kristine Bunker, and Lesley Jones. Erin Green was the first to shine, swimming to a third place finish in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:01.32 in the first individual swimming event of the day.

Kristine Bunker followed Erin Green's performance with a notable performance of her own, nearly setting a new personal best time in the 200 yard freestyle. Her time of 2:00.63 was two tenths of a second off her season best and was good for a fifth place finish in the event.

"Overall the times today weren't that impressive with everyone being tired, which makes it that much more impressive for Kristine to almost beat her best time in the 200," Coach Morton said.

Lesley Jones, meanwhile, was very competitive in the 100 freestyle, though her 55.17 resulted in a third place finish. She touched the wall only four tenths of a second behind the first place finisher in the event, Duquesne's Katrina Streiner (54.72).

"I think everyone was tired from their training trips, not just us but the other teams as well," Morton added, "The women put forth an outstanding effort to swim so well despite being so tired."

The Vikings return to action on Saturday, Jan. 19, in a dual meet against Wright State in Dayton, OH. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. EST.
