San Juan, Puerto Rico - Following four individual victories, the Cleveland State women's swimming and diving team recorded their first victory of the new-year at the San Juan Sprint Invitational. In a meet that included four 50-meter events, the Vikings recorded 24 points in their victory over the Syracuse Orange.

"We were particularly impressed with the positive attitude of the women's team and the effort they put forth," head coach Wally Morton said. "The training has been going well, as indicated by 100% attendance and an ability to adapt to the volume and intensity of training that we're doing."

In the first event of the meet, the 50 meter butterfly, Alice Sommerville was the lone Viking to place. Sommerville won the event in 30.06, out-touching the second place finisher by more than three seconds.

Joanna Olsson was victorious in the 50 back, touching in a time of 33.59. Olsson's teammate Courtney Maddock finished second in 37.81.

CSU took home first and third place finishes in the 50 breaststroke, with Emily Simard winning the race in 38.47 and Kelly Rath finishing third in 39.41, just one-tenth of a second shy of a second place finish.

Jamie Puls was the lone Viking to place in the 50 free, coming away with a first place finish after touching the wall in 29.82.
