INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana - Rachel Contich has been awarded this week's #HLSD Women's Swimmer of the Week, the Horizon League announced Wednesday afternoon.
The sophomore from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, went a perfect 3-for-3 in posting first-place finishes in the Vikings' season-opening dual meet against Notre Dame College on Thursday, Feb. 11. Contich began her season by placing first in the 200 freestyle, winning the event by over six seconds (1:56.79). She then came back to comfortably win the 500 freestyle (5:13.55), before closing her day by swimming the third leg on the winning 400 freestyle relay. Her split in the relay was the fastest split of any of the 16 swimmers that competed during the race.
The Vikings have been selected to finish second in the Horizon League this season, as its annual preseason poll was announced on Tuesday. Both the men's and women's team received one first place vote.
