McNamara Named Academic All-District First Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Senior Molly McNamara of the Cleveland State University women's swimming & diving team was selected to the Google Cloud Academic All-District First Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday afternoon.

With this achievement, McNamara will now advance to the Academic All-America ballot.

McNamara carries a 3.95 cumulative grade point average as a pre-med/health science major. She was named an Outstanding Senior in the College of Science & Health Professions and was a candidate for valedictorian for the school.

After dominating at the Horizon League Championships in February, McNamara was named both HL Women's Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Year and Women's Swimmer of the Meet. It was her second straight Athlete of the Year honor, making her the first Viking female to win that award more than once.

McNamara was the only Horizon League swimmer, male or female, to claim Academic All-District honors this year. A total of 25 Division I women's swimmers earned the accolade in Thursday's announcement.

McNamara was the only female student-athlete to produce three first-place individual finishes at the 2019 HL Championships. She won the 100 butterfly, the 200 butterfly and the 200 IM and became Cleveland State's first-ever 200 IM HL champion. McNamara also became the first student-athlete this century from any school to sweep butterfly titles at back-to-back HL Championships.

McNamara won six individual Horizon League titles over the past three seasons. She leaves CSU as the owner of school records in three individual events. Along with her teammates, she also holds school records in two different relay disciplines.

McNamara was named Scholar All-America Honorable Mention by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for the second time last summer. She also is a two-time HL Female Scholar-Athlete of the Winter Season honoree.

McNamara was recognized in CoSIDA's Academic All-America At-Large category. Female student-athletes from the following sports are eligible to be recognized in this category: beach volleyball, bowling, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, rowing, skiing, swimming & diving, tennis and water polo.
