Men Finish 2nd; Women Finish 7th At Horizon League Championship

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Cleveland State men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up action at the 2016 Horizon League Championship Saturday, with the men's team finishing second with 597.50 points and women finishing seventh with 350.50 points.

Both teams capped off the championships by bringing home some yearly honors, as Molly McNamara was named the Women's Freshman of the Year, Philipp Sikatzki was named the Men's Swimmer of the Meet and the Men's Athlete of the Year, and head coach Paul Graham was named the Men's Coach of the Year.

McNamara was the highlight for the women's team on the final day of action, as she posted a program record in the 200 Butterfly, finishing second with a time of 1:59.71.

Michaela Bargardi was just shy of a program record in the 200 Backstroke, placing seventh with a season-best time of 2:03.50.

On the diving board, Tori Taffner finished sixth in the 3-Meter event, posting a score of 252.95 in the finals.

On the men's side, Philip Sikatzki and Szymon Golczyk brought home first place finishes for the Vikings in the 100 Freestyle and 200 Butterfly events, respectively. Sikatzki won the 100 free in a time of 43.22, marking a Cleveland State, Horizon League, and championship record, along with an NCAA B cut. Golczyk posted a time of 1:45.41 in the 200 fly, also notching an NCAA B cut and Cleveland State record.

Tommi Wolst posted a runner-up finish for the Vikings on the final day of the championship, placing second in the 200 Backstroke with a season-best time of 1:46.75.

The Vikings also got a top-five finish from Jonathon LaValle in the 200 Backstroke, as he finished fifth with a time of 1:48.82.

Gage Alleman posted a season-best time for the Vikings in the 200 Breaststroke, finishing sixth with a time of 2:01.98, while Mac Lewis notched a season-best in the 1650 Freestyle, placing eighth in a time of 16:07.80.
